Creepy Dead Flowers | ||

For me it's less about going "boo" and more about atmosphere and making your *ahem* victim scare themself.
In keeping with this, I've found that properly dead, decaying flowers for your graves, neglected front porch or ghost bride does the trick.
I have a set of prolific pink rose bushes in the front of my house (yes, pink, they were here when I moved in) - anyway, I thought hmmm...I'll dry those for my cemetery and proceded to dry them in my usual way - hanging upside to preserve the straight stems and flowers themselves.
I put these across the graves and cobwebbed over them. They looked wonderful! But I thought they looked TOO well preserved. So, the next year I did it this way...even better.

Here are two examples of dried flowers. The ones on the left were hung upside down and let to dry in a dark cool place. The ones on the right were left standing in a vase in my garage during the summer - the droop and shattered petals makes all the difference. |

| So, really, all you do is get your flowers. Put said flowers in a vase, one short enough that the flowers stick out over the top and wide enough for them to shift. Put somewhere out of the way - the top of the fridge is good. Let them wilt, let them fade...they will dry. | ||

I will be going to Deathfest this year and as a member of CalHauntS am helping decorate a local eatery for a meet and greet the first night. I'm expanding my arrangements to be more than just roses. I will post pictures of the pieces when they're done. |
